Wireless Network Evolution Working Group

The Wireless Network Evolution Working Group’s work streams cover a wide range of developments, such as the impact of evolving generations of mobile network technologies on markets and consumers in Europe, the use of satellite and satellite connectivity to the development of Open Radio Access Networks. The Working Group analyse technological developments and their impact on sustainable competition in telecom markets. The Working group identifies best practices and shares information on the market-shaping aspects of spectrum assignment, facilitating the rollout of very high capacity networks and stimulating their contribution to close the digital divide.

Sietse van der Gaast is a Senior Enforcement Officer at the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) in the Netherlands. He holds an Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Twente, and gathered over 25 years of experience in the telecommunication and Information and Communications Technology industry before joining ACM in March 2022.

He previously worked for the Dutch advisory firm Stratix, and was active as project leader or expert in a variety of projects concerning fixed and mobile infrastructures, but also including topics such as datacentres, Internet of Things, Programme Making and Special Events and optical wireless communication, involving policy advice, technology advice, business strategy and tendering of fixed and mobile infrastructure. Earlier he worked for Bell Labs Research and was active in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute standardisation, representing Alcatel-Lucent.
